okay this is the only story of my that i've ever finished...and it isn't perfect...i started this one in 4th grade and finished it in 6th...
“Just the other night I was talking to my friends about this awesome dream I had. It also got me thinking; can dreams really come true? If dreams can come true, then I hope this dream comes true. I want just this one dream to come true. It would be better than all my dreams come true.”
That’s what I wrote two nights ago and I think my dream is coming true! I won’t get too excited just yet. It might just be a coincidence. Well I better get moving or I’ll be late for class. I always keep a journal at school. It’s been a habit ever since my old English teacher wanted us to start a project involving journals at school.
“Sara, wait for me,” Julie called from behind me, “whoa.” I turned to see her get tripped by one of the bullies at our school. We always got picked on because we were poorer than the rest of the kids. Julie and I live in the same house. Our parents know each other. Julie also is my best friend.
“Leave her alone you Helpless little rat,” I helped Julie up. I wasn’t very good at name-calling. So I improvised.
“Hey look, the book worm is helped out by the new ugly duckling,” The kid named Joe shouted out to for every one to hear. His gang consists of four boys and three girls. I only know the one girl’s name and the boys’ names. The girl is the most popular girl in the school, so I learned her name and about her pretty quick. Her name is Raquel Hamilton. The gang leader is Joe he is going out with Raquel’s sister. Brandon is the single guy but he his Joe’s best buddy. Ryan is going out with Raquel’s best friend, and Raquel is going out with the boy of any body’s dream; Kris for short.
“If you ever read the Ugly Duckling you would know that the duckling turned into the most beautiful swan at the end. Looser!” I was getting mad now, but only four minutes to get to my first hour. I going to have to keep this dispute short. “I wouldn’t be late again if I were you,” I added while waving a finger at Joe, “you know what happen when you were.” Everyone laughed. I guess I was getting the hang of the school.
“We will just see about that,” Raquel spitted towards me, “lets go Kris. Humph!” She trotted away like she was a princess. A spoiled princess. Kris did go with her, but he also slipped something into my hand as he went by. I looked at it. It was his number! He wanted me to call!
I told Julie what happen. I had no clue of what to say. I was a mental freak on the way home. Julie knew what to do. She was being stubborn about the giving the info, though. “Julie, please give me some advice. He is the cutest boy in school. Please Julie.”
“I thought you despise all boys who looked like that. Our parents are going to get mad at us if we don’t move our butts home.”
“I’ll call him just before dinner.” We ran all the way home from there. My parent’s work late and so do Julie’s parents. We had enough time to do homework, chores, and get a plan for the call before we had to start dinner. At four o’clock I called him.
“Hello?” came a boy’s voice over the intercom.
“Hi, this is Sara, is Kris there; may I speak with him.” I replied.
“You’re speaking with him. I can’t talk now call in another five minutes. Raquel is just about to leave. Her dad is here to pick her up right now. Talk real soon.” He hung up.
“Well, what did he say? What did he say?” Julie bounced up and down.
“He told me to call back in another five minutes. I’ll wait ten. Give him some time to think of what to say you know.” The ten minutes were the longest part of my life.
“Hello, Kris?” I called him.
“Hey Sara. It is over between Raquel and me. Ryan also broke up with her best friend. We were hoping you two would come with us (Julie is bouncing up and down in the back) to the welcome back Dance.”
“We’d be happy to. Only we need to ask our parents if we can go and they need to talk to your parents. After that we need to get money. ---- SHOOT!!! I forgot! We don’t have any money.”
“No problem I have enough to get us all in except for Ryan he is going to pay for Julie’s ticket and his own. I will pay for ours. Hey, Sara.”
“Yeah.”
“I don’t mean to be rude, but lets not talk during the hallway passing or classes, okay?”
“I understand. Okay, I will give you heads up on the so called date.”
“Thanks. You are the best.”
“Bye, Kris.”
“Bye, Sara; and thanks again for being my date even if you can’t go it still makes me happy you said yes.” I hung up the phone. I was a little creped out, because that is what happened in the beginning of my dream. That soon came to past. I needed to call our parents and quick. I called and talked and got them convinced that we can go as long as they can drive us there. They promised not to pick us up.
The rest of the week went by fast. I told Kris what my parents said and he liked the idea of having a walk together. We had a few chats after that. We only talked over the phone for fifteen minutes then Julie talked to Ryan for fifteen minutes. We only could talk that long because of a phone bill would kill us. I wish my parents got better jobs. In my dream they got the jobs of there dreams offered to them and they better accept.
The weekend brought a big surprise that I some what was expecting to happen. My parents got offered their jobs with very good pay and times. It was (literally) a dream come true to them and myself. It also brought one big troublemaker. RAQUELL!!! She came over and shouted:
“You stole my boyfriend! You are such a freak. You stay away from Kris you hear! He is mine! If I catch you any where near him I will-----GGGRRRRRRRRRRRR.” She looked at me with two big swollen eyes that had too much mascara on them that her eyes looked like oil was leaking like a car.
“I think you need a check up,” I replied and slammed the door on accident. The house was not real easy to predict. We always have to be careful and that was one time I didn’t care if I was careful or not. She was mean so I get to do that to her once at least. I knew it wasn’t right though. I opened the door back up to say I was sorry, and the most amazing thing happened. She was yelling at Kris who was in my bush by my house, listening.
“I’m sorry for yelling at you, Sara, when it was his fault,” she was pointing to Kris, “he was the one who gave you the number. He was the one who won’t go to the Dance with me. Have a great time with this fraud, Sara. Tootles.” Then she stormed off to her house around the corner. Yeah, that’s how close we are to Raquel.
I wasn’t surprise about her crying about Kris. I was surprise to see Kris on the verge of tears though. I didn’t know what to say or do until I realized Julie had nudged, no, pushed me forwards toward Kris. Julie knew what was going on. Don’t ask how she knows she just does. She’s just a good observer, I guess.
“Are you okay, Sara? She can be very loud and stubborn some of the time. She really is a sweet girl in the inside. It’s just her friends who make her so bratty.” Kris said while a tear ran down his face. I didn’t understand why he was going to cry. Then he looked right at me, his blue eyes made me feel warm and fuzzy all over. His blonde hair whipping in the lightest breeze. I was about to faint. Then my dream flashed before my eyes. We kissed.
“Sorry,” I said bashfully, “I couldn’t help my self. You were just there about to cry.” Then my parents pulled up in the driveway.
“Who would like to go see a movie? Hey, who’s this young fellow kissing my daughter.” My dad didn’t mind me kissing boys as long as Julie was near. “Would you like to come with us?” he added, “I let you two sit behind us.” I couldn’t tell if my dad was being nice because he saw us kissing or if he saw he was crying.
Kris got the answer first, “I would love to, but I need to call the old folks.” Wrong thing to say, I thought. My dad only laughed.
He called his parents and it was an official date. We got half way through the movie when I started to panic. What if he didn’t like that kiss? What if he won’t talk to me ever again? I won’t be able to go on with out him. How could any one? He is just the perfect person.
The movie was finished. He waited until most of the people left before he got up and offered to help me get up. Then I had to ask him.
“Will you be my boyfriend?” I asked as quickly as I could then I couldn’t help myself. I bolted off. I was crying and thinking why did I have to spoil his day. Once again my dream flashed right before my eyes. I still didn’t stop. “Whoa!” I fell and hurt my ankle real bad. I couldn’t get up. That’s when I saw who tripped me. Joe did. Then he kicked up a rock, which made my vision go bad.
“Ugly duckling, you hurt my girlfriend. Want to explain what you did? Or do I need to explain it for you? You stole her old boyfriend. We don’t.” He got cut off.
“Leave her alone! She didn’t do any thing to you.” It was Kris. He came to pick me up. “You’ll be okay, Sara?”
“My leg hurts and I can’t seem to focus on anything.” Every thing became like my dream. I knew my dream was coming true. I smiled and then conked out.
The next thing I knew I was in a car in a lap being talked to softly by a boy’s voice. I couldn’t figure out who it was until he said, “Hey Mr. Danural, she is waking up. I should go home now.” It was Kris.
“Don’t leave!” I tried to shout but could only make out a whisper. He turned and smiled. Then he said, “I love you, Sara. I will come over tomorrow to see how you are doing.” My vision was straight long enough for me to see he had gotten into a big fight. He was crying and bleeding, laughing, and smiling all at the same time. I loved him, also.
“I love you, too!” I managed to shout to him as he went out my car door; but boy, was that the wrong idea, it made me have the worst headache ever. I was going to see him tomorrow.
He came the next day. We talked, but never on the subject that got me into this mess. When he left he left a little kiss on my forehead. Then announced, “Julie told me about your dream. I’m going to do my best to make it come true. Oh, I think you are a little behind on your journal. Here you are. You won’t be able to go to school tomorrow. So, I will bring every thing you miss to you tomorrow. Let’s be happy you won’t miss two more days.” He waved good-bye, and so did I.
Monday was the slowest day I every came to. The only time it went fast was when I was asleep. Kris came and brought my stuff and help Julie and I get it done. After that, we had a big surprise, or at least Julie did. Ryan came over after school. Who ever knew he was such a nice guy? Julie and Ryan went to the park on bikes. I couldn’t go and Kris wouldn’t leave.
Every thing from there to the time of the Dance was perfect, or at least until the day of the Dance. It was Thursday, and Kris didn’t come to school. I had no idea where he was. Ryan didn’t even know and they lived right across from each other. How was I going to tell him what my parents said about the walk home?
“Hey, sorry I had a dentist appointment,” came Kris’s voice from behind me, “what did I miss in third hour, Ryan.”
“Nothing much,” replied Ryan.
Raquel came by with a cup of milk. She poured it all over me. I was glad I wasn’t wearing the outfit I was going to be wearing to the Dance. She had a sour look to her face.
“Opps, I’m sorry I didn’t see you there. You looked like a trash can. My bad. Here have a napkin or two.” She didn’t have a nice tone to her voice either. She threw the napkins on the floor. Then she just trotted away like nothing happened.
Well, if she was going to be like that I was going to need to talk to her. I dried off. Kris looked blank. Ryan and Julie were exchanging looks while getting more napkins. Raquel went into the bathroom when she trotted off.
“I will go get more napkins,” I proclaimed as I walked towards the bathroom. I entered the rest room as quietly as possible. I heard a sob come from one off the stalls around the corner. I saw who it was. I talked slow and steady, “why don’t you come over to my place for supper. After that, we can get ready, together, for the Dance.”
I got no response so I repeated my self. Then she also replied as slowly and steady as she could manage through tears, “ I would love to. Do you really mean it? Can Joe come along?”
“Sure,” I said without hesitation which I think made her surprised, “as long as he doesn’t smoke, drink, or fight with Ryan or Kris. We should work out just fine.” Now I’m glad my parents had a big van.
The rest of the day was boring. I had to go home and so I missed half a day of school. Before I left, however, I told everyone else what was going to happen. I couldn’t wait to learn more about Raquel. She seemed even sadder than me some of the time. I don’t understand bullies.
Ding, dong. There went the doorbell. “Coming!” I shouted, “Come with me, Julie, I’m not sure who it is.” I grabbed Julie’s hand and yanked her to the door. I was glad it was Raquel.
“I hope I’m not late for supper. I’m starving. Forgot to eat the rest of my lunch; I was so excited.” Raquel peered inside and around the door.
“Come on in. Did you bring a bag off neat Dance out fits?” Julie asked as I realized the plastic bags in her arms. She had three bags. Two looked lighter than the third. She then stretched out the biggest bag and handed it to me.
“Please, open it when we get ready for the Dance,” Raquel pleaded as she also stepped into the dinning room also known as the kitchen in our house. The house was old and Raquel’s expression explained that she liked it, “what kind of adventures do you have in this old mansion.”
We explained the whole house to her over dinner. We had a big kitchen only because it was split into a dinning room, also. The hall started at the front door and went straight back to the stairs. On the other side of the hall was the living room where every one sat and talked. The TV was in the den across the kitchen. That is where everyone watched TV. We had a closet down the hall just before the stairs and a restroom right across from that. Up stairs was my bedroom that I shared with Julie. She had the messer side of the room. Right next-door was a two-door bathroom. Then there was my parent’s bedroom. The next room was the storage room. Then came Julie’s parent’s bedroom.
We spent an hour after dinner getting ready for the Dance. Raquel was really fun to be with. Julie agreed with me. “Now it’s time for you to open the bags. You go first, Sara,” Raquel announced while trying to stop giggling, “you better open it quick. The boys will be here in a half an hour to pick us up.”
I opened the bag it was a new dress. I squealed. Before anyone had time to say any thing my old out fit was off and the new one on. There was more in the bag. I pulled all of it out. It was a pair of shoes to go with, a necklace, and some earrings. Julie’s was the same except she had no shoes or necklace. The last bag was for Raquel, but she had already opened it.
“I hope all that fits you. I know Kris will like to see you in that,” Raquel sobbed without a single tear, “you can have it. I can’t wait until I see the look on Kris’s face. You look beautiful.” She was right. My chest was not big but it was an average for my age. It was a knee length, strapless, light blue dress. Julie’s dress was a spaghetti strap, full length, and sparkly green dress. Raquel had a blouse and skirt with printed flowers on it. Her shoes were high heels. Mine are just a little bit off the ground. Since Julie was taller than anybody else she had no heel. Raquel helped me put on my necklace, earrings, and helped me put my hair up in a high ponytail. Julie helped Raquel. She put her hair in a bun. Julie didn’t like to put her hair up so she left it down.
“There! We’re done!” I shouted as I put my lip-gloss on (the only kind of make-up I’m allowed to wear). We had five minutes to spare, or at least that’s what we thought. The doorbell rang just as I was going to go out side to wait. I open the door to find Joe standing out side my door with some flowers.
“Is Raquel here?” he asked bashfully.
“Yes, come in,” I said quickly. It started to rain. “If it don’t stop we might need a ride home,” I thought. Joe came in kissed Raquel on the check, and gave her the flowers. She didn’t look like she liked the kiss.
“Would you stop it? Thanks for the flowers,” Raquel didn’t look at all happy.
“Aren’t you glad that he came?” asked Julie before I had a chance to say anything. I think she noticed.
“It was getting too dark for me to see where the others where,” remarked Joe. Joe was wearing all black. Just like some one would wear when a family member died. He did look handsome, though. He didn’t look as handsome as he once did. He still had a bump on his head and one of his teeth was knocked out.
Two minutes later the doorbell rang for a second time. I was not surprise to see Kris and Ryan with umbrellas. Before I said a word they were in side drying off. “Hello Sara,” Ryan said as soon as they were done drying. Kris was dressed with a light blue collared shirt with black jeans. He was so cute. The jeans set off his blonde hair. His shirt brought out his blue eyes. He wasn’t cute he was the most handsomest man (besides my dad) I have ever met. Ryan was wearing the same thing except for his shirt was green.
Kris only looked at me. I didn’t know if I should kiss him or tell him to go get into the car. “I have to tell my mom we are ready to leave,” and as I turned to do so Kris caught my hand. He whipped me around to grab my waist, and then he kissed me smack down on the lips. It was a full blast kiss. I could swear it lasted five minutes total.
My dad drove us to the school for the Dance. No one said a word until we got out of the car. “May we hang out with you and your friends, Sara and Julie?” Raquel asked. She was getting bored with the no talking idea.
I started to cry, and Julie replied, “Sure if you don’t mind hanging out with the low life kids.”
“Why are you crying?” Kris asked eagerly. His blue eyes were too much to handle. I told him how I felt about him. I even told him what I saw of him. As I finished we walked straight onto the dance floor. He didn’t interrupt or make any notion to talk. He just listened. I was wondering what was going on in his genius mind.
The first few songs we just sat out. Raquel was really mad at Joe for some odd reason. She would not talk to him at all. The rest of Raquel’s friends were not there at the dance. We even went looking for them.
“Would you like to dance?” Ryan asked Julie very shyly.
“Of course! I don’t want to sit around all night and wait for these couples to make up or make out,” she replied with no hesitation at all. They walked on to the dance floor. The song they danced to was a hip song. They still have not played a slow song, and it seems to me that they wouldn’t play a slow song.
“I’m thirsty do you peoples want a drink?” Raquel asked as she got up.
“I’ll have one. How about you, Sara?” Kris replied. Kris’s voice was shaky. Why would his voice be shaky? It was my first dance. I have never been to a dance. Could it be Kris’s first dance?
“Sure,” I said in a very high pitch voice. No one seemed to notice. Joe seemed to think he was not wanted, so he just left. Now it was only Kris and I, “Is it your first dance, also?” I asked nervously.
“Yes and no.”
“What do you mean?” I was glad we were having a nice conversation.
“Well, I went to a dance by my self last year. This year I have you. You know you are really pretty tonight. I like that dress on you it brings out your hazel eyes. The necklace also stands out. I’m also nervous, Sara. So, don’t be afraid to tell me anything that is on your mind. Just like you did back there.”
He only stared at me. The look I gave him told him that I was wondering what was going on in his mind. He sent a look back. It read as follows: I love you and never want to let you go. You are so beautiful.
I couldn’t get any more than that, because someone had spilled something all over Raquel. That some one was Joe. No one seemed to know why he did it.
“I am not your chick anymore. I’m myself, I belong to no one Joe,” Raquel looked like a steam stack. Just then I realized that Kris and I were right behind Raquel. Julie and Ryan were at Kris’s side, staring as blankly as we were. “I will have a talk with the principal about this. I’ll meet you all back at your place, Julie. I don’t want to ruin your first time at a dance, Sara.” She stormed off just like I would have.
“Okay, see you there!” Julie and I shouted at the same time towards the direction Raquel went. We some times had a jinxing moment. That is where we get a whole sentence out at the same time. We try to ovoid it.
“Let’s get this party started!” came the DJ’s voice. Everyone began to Dance once more except us four. Joe stormed out the other set of doors. Ryan went after him at once.
Julie turned towards Kris and me to announce, “Do you have any clue what that was about?” I looked at Kris. He didn’t look at either of us. He knew what that was all about he just wasn’t sure how he was going to explain it. We walked slowly out the door with Kris holding my hand and holding Julie’s hand. As soon as we got out side he pulled his jacket off and, being a kind of gentleman he is, he put his jacket around my shoulders.
“Thank you Kris. I was getting a little chilly,” I thanked Kris. Hoping he would explain what happen, we started to walk to the gardens right out front of the school. Then all of a sudden he stopped and looked around. Julie popped the question first.
“What’s the matter?” Julie asked. I turned my head exactly like Kris’s head turned to see what he would have seen.
“I was just looking to see if any one was around. That is all.” He walked to a bench and sat down. “I know what was going on in there. I will tell both of you if you will not interrupt. It all started with the first year of JR. High School. Yeah it started all the way back then. Raquel was a sweet little girl back then. Oh, I don’t come in to the story until last year. She met up with some friends of hers one day after school, and each girl had a boyfriend in a certain group of fellows. There was only one boy left so they just went out for the fun of it. Soon the boys thought they owned the girls. That is why she was reluctant towards Joe. I hope she won’t change. If she does then let’s hope it is for the better.” He looked down at me and smiled. We held one long awkward gaze.
“Well… now that we know what is going on I would like to go inside and dance some more,” Julie announced as she got up. I started to get up, also, but Kris got up first and then offered me a hand. He did in an awkward way. I thanked him any ways.
Ryan came to meet us half way. He said that Joe was to fast and he could not catch up to him to calm him down. I wouldn’t blame him for not catching up with him; he isn’t as long legged as Joe is.
We got inside and it was very nice to be back were the music was. They just finished playing one of the loudest songs ever. The next song was a slow song. A slow song was playing!!! Oh no! What was I suppose to do!
“You’d you like to dance, Sara,” came the calm voice of Kris. How could I say no!
“Yes, of course.” We started to dance. It was like dancing on clouds. He was swift and elegant. He new how to dance! I wasn’t to surprise but I was shock to feel sweat go down the back of his neck. He really is nervous! I wish I could be of help. Soon the song was over and I had to wake up.
“Just the other night I was talking to my friends about this awesome dream I had. It also got me thinking; can dreams really come true? If dreams can come true, then I hope this dream comes true. I want just this one dream to come true. It would be better than all my dreams come true.”
