Name: Ewein ‘Gene’ Red (he always goes by Gene)
Race: Human
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Clan: Earth Tribe (although he isn’t from anyone’s side)
Weapon of choice: Gene despises weapons, so he fights only with his bare hands, although he has inhuman physical abilities, a result of his training.
Abilities: Ewein is incredible at a physical level. He doesn't have powers, probably because he has mixed blood. Anyway, with training he has become incredibly strong. Flexibility, speed, agility, strength... he has it all, but still, what is most surprising is his physical toughness (you could slash a very big sword at him, and it still wouldn't cut him (though it would hurt him a lot) as to make serious damage) and, of course, his fighting spirit and stubborness. Sometimes, his ability to withstand pain or to get up even after receiving serious damage is almost ridiculous.
Appearance: Picture by Aurora Kantiza
Gene is a 6 feet tall teen. He’s pretty well-built and muscled, which proves he does exercise and trains daily, and he weighs around 170 lbs and he has quite tanned skin. He has dark brown hair which is slightly reddish though. On the back of his head, the hair is pretty long, while the bangs and the sides are shorter, so his hair never bothers him when fighting and it is usually messy. He doesn’t really have special features to him, because all his scars are in his body and though they are many, the clothes hide them. Anyway, he has rather sharp feline-like eyes and he seems to be frowning twenty-four hours a day, like if he was always angry. He’s rather handsome, even though he’s not extremely pretty, he’s not ugly either. Anyway, he’s quite an average-looking boy, if you take out the fact that he’s more muscled than most of the guys his age and maybe his tanned skin.
Ewein wears averall simple clothes. He usually wears a t-shirt, although he might also use long-sleeved shirts or tight shirts. He always wears over the shirt a brown vest that reaches his waist. His pants are also usually very simple, without many pockets or anything special. Anyway, he wears necklace around his neck that holds fangs of different beasts that he managed to defeat. He also has many bracelets around his left wrist, all of them very simple though. Anyway, on his right wrist he has yet another bracelet made with fangs. Gene also has a ribbon around his left arm, at the height of his biceps.
Personality: Gene is rather cold and doesn’t talk too much with others unless needed, which doesn’t mean he’s cold-hearted or extremely calm, in fact, he’s easily irritable, with a really short temper, and he can be a very grumpy and anti-social. Anyway, he has a pretty strong sense of justice and he’s a caring person, even though he is always trying to hide it. He likes training and fighting, but only against those who are worth it. He’s also extremely stubborn, almost inhumanly pig-headed, so his determination is many times unbreakable. He would try to get back up even if he had broken both legs. He considers that fighting with weapons of any kind is not honourable, and therefore he never carries weapons, and for the same reason he also dislikes magic powers or anything that automatically gives advantage to one of the contenders. He dislikes the tribes, all of them, and their leaders, that’s why, even though he’s considered from the Earth tribe because he was born in their territory, he travels alone and doesn’t really support any of them.
History: Gene was born to a middle family, rather poor. Anyway, the one who was his ‘father’ wasn’t his true father. Gene’s mother had to work as a prostitute to survive, and so she gave birth to him. But even though it would have been much better for her, she never abandoned her child. Anyway, she met a man when Gene was still a baby. A caring man. He was just a construction worker, no one important, but he did his best to make his new wife and son happy. As he grew older, Gene was more and more proud of hi dad. He was a strong man, very strong, and yet, he helped those who needed him, unlike the leaders or those who considered themselves important, always with a smile on his face. Child Gene would repeat again and again that he would be as strong as his father, and as gentle and caring as his mother was. He played games, like any kid, always imagining that he was a strong warrior. Anyway, it was hard to have friends for him. Although kids didn’t understand such things, the adults around them did know that Gene was an illegitimate child, a bastard, and so, the other adults didn’t really want their children to be with him, nor to be around that family, with an ex-prostitute and a simple, low-life construction worker, even if that man was one of the strongest. But to him, it seemed normal, so he had just a happy life, like most kids.
Anyway, he grew up, like all kids, and being older his parents had a brother. They were completely different. His brother had a paler skin tone, he was smaller and his eyes were blue. He looked a lot more like his father than Gene did.
Gene seemed to dislike his brother, and he also understood who he was. He became a loner, not wanting to be with other people, nor older nor of his own age. He started understanding that he was different, and even though not all of them did, he started to think that people just hated him, and that maybe he even deserved it. His attempts at being as strong as his father also became more serious. Now he didn’t just play, he actually trained.
But, when he was still thirteen, his father left. He had been called to go to war, for the tribe. Of course, he was a great fighter, he was strong. That vision of his father as a hero, as a titan, never faded in Gene’s mind. Of course, his ingenious mind swallowed what they told him, that his father would fight for the honor of the tribe, for greatness, and when he came back, everyone would be happy and treat him like a legendary hero.
But Gene’s father never came back from the war. And what had they fought for? A new island? A few more miles of territory for the tribe? Nothing! His father had fought, and he had never come back, in vain! This is when his hatred towards all the tribes, and mainly their leaders, along with the stupid battle they were holding, killing people mindlessly, grew incredibly.
Gene started an even more serious training in fighting, fed by anger, frustration, loneliness, sorrow, pride… almost all the feelings one could imagine fuelled Gene’s heart, making his body grow as well as he surpassed his own limits, until he was even stronger than almost every adult warrior, though he didn’t know yet. But what was all that for? What would it give him? Gene didn’t even have a goal. And now they were alone again, doing what they could for a living.
Soon, his mother got a very rare disease, and there weren’t doctors that could find a way to heal her, and anyway they were too expensive for them. They hadn’t the money to pay them for research, and of course, in such an era, health insurance wouldn’t cover a crap, if it even existed. It was him, Gene, who would do some research himself! With barely some information from old books that wasn’t even clear enough, Gene left. His training would be worthy now. His brother would stay at home and take care of their mother, and whileso, Gene would find a solution at ANY price. He wouldn’t let anyone else he cared for suffer. Fortunately, before leaving, he discovered the true warmth of the people around him. Some inhabitants gave him money, other swore to help taking care of Gene’s mother as well. Yet another reason why Gene wouldn’t come back with empty hands, there was people who trusted him, even though they hadn’t open their heart to him until them, moved by the sacrifice of the father and the fight of what was left of that family.
